Change to research process and method

Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic my research has had to take an unexpected change. This has brought about challenges such as;

  • How will I complete the piece?
  • Will I complete the piece?
  • Is there a way to use what we already have filmed as the documentation?
  • Can we work from our homes to produce the same kind of research practically?
  • How can I continue the research and choreographic process?
  • Will this change my value system by having to work this way?
  • Connecting with my dancers, how will this change? Will they have the time to do any at-home tasks that I might ask them to try?
  • How might I present any form of work now digitally?
  • Trying to stay true to my questions and explorations whilst working through this difficult time?
These questions are just some of the ones that have come up, however, because of this being a situation that we have never had to work around as a University Degree before, the establishment has and is being more understanding, in terms of what methods we choose to present work, how we are going about it. Another element of their understanding is that of the people having other responsibilities such as caring for the vulnerable, and in my case, this has affected me.

I have had to stop my process for a short amount of time due to having to travell home from university and also taking care of my Granny next door who is high risk and vulnerable so this has had to be a priority for some time, therefore, leaving me with maybe no as much time as I would have initially had to focus on my work, however saying that I have managed to find a way to stay motivated, stay in communication with my tutor, with my dancers and continue the process, therefore, the added responsibilities and lack of normality had not affected my work as much as I had worried it would. I have continued and found new ways to keep the process going, to keep positive with it, enjoy finding ways to overcome any challenges within it, and to produce a work that is just as valued as what it might have been when performed on a stage.
