Workshop Eight
Workshop Eight:
Aims: The aim of this workshop was to introduce more of William Forsythe's 'Improvisation Technologies', to see how these tools could be effective within my practice, and the geometric, breaking of classical concepts can either improve or disrupt their original function of being elegant, intrinsic, effortless and stylistic.
Tasks:
With each dancer given an individual element to change and develop the original ballet phrase, it was enabling me to see in which way the dancers acknowledged how they understood the task. By having no one else with the same exploration it showed me how the dancers took risks, who felt more conservative, who had more of an understanding of these methods, and how each of their creativity comes out. Having the chance to see this I enjoyed how they approached it differently, giving great care and concentration to their task.
Outcome: I learned how their understanding of ballet is important, to be able to have the foundation to work off made the development a bit easier as they would have confidence in what their base layer was. This is a value all tree Forsythe, Kylian, and Pite believe in within their work and for their dancers performing their pieces.
