Workshop Seven

Workshop Seven:

Choreographing: This was a section that I had choreographed through improvisation on my own. I gave myself time before the dancers joined me to do this, exploring movement and improvising keeping the thought of the. qulity of which we, the dancers and myself, have been working with in the process.

Value: The value is a more personal one, I have improvised and created the material myself however knowingly would not be the one performing this movement. This is because of my personal opinion and belief that this style does not look the same or right on my body, this could be to do with my size, shape, technique or my natural movement style but it is something I am aware of and so when doing this improvisation task it was important to me to keep an open mind and think of it as just steps, not as the embodied movement and how it would be done as it could look different on one person to another.

Outcome: The way the dancers picked up and embellished the movement to be even more detailed and interesting was good and gave me the opportunity to adjust and change anything that I thought could be developed further, therefore a successful way of choreographing that I will continue to use in my work. The way of which I consider myself and my body in this task, and process, could be seen as contradictory because of embracing how Forsythe, Kylian, and Pite all are trying to bring in the value of acceptance on dancers' bodies, whereas I am self-critical when it comes to my own. It is something that I need to work on and in time be something that tends to my own personal principles and will enable me in my dancing and choreographing.

Task: This was a creative task given to the dancers. By asking them to create a phrase utilizing the use of the arms and upper body in a way that resembles the essence of classical ballet arms, shapes, and lines.

Value: I chose to use this task as an exploration of the dancer's creativity and input, exploring their understanding of my instructions and the work we have been doing so far to see how the process and their understanding will help them to create this phrase.

Outcome: The task produced movement that I find very stylised and reminds me of Jiri Kylian neo- classicism quality. The task brought out some ideas of how this could be developed further and with more dancers in this phrase. It is also clear that the dancers have pickd up well on the style we have been using throughout the process and the dynamics within it. This is good not only for me as a choreographer but as a contemporary dancer it tells me that the process I have been working with is creating outcomes of which I think best reflects both my own and the dancer's intentions.
